SAN FRANCISCO COUNCIL VISITS USS SAN FRANCISCO SSN-771

 

On Thursday, July 30,2009, Chuck Shea, President of the San Francisco Council traveled to Submarine Base, San Diego to participate with the Officers and Crew, in an Awards Ceremony for the Outstanding Sailors of the Quarter.

 

CDR Nathan Martin USN Commanding Officer of USS San Francisco led the award ceremony, pier side, right alongside the ship, which is currently undergoing a systems modernization program. This was a special day because Master Chief Schell CMDCM(SS) the Command Master Chief was completing a three year, very successful tour as COB of USS San Francisco and had his new relief Senior Chief Neil Bissonette FTCS(SS) “On Deck” for the Hand off”.

 

CDR Martin along with Chuck Shea presented awards to Three Sailors of the Quarter who were present to receive their awards. These special men were; Sailor of the Quarter, MM1 Mathew Stenson. Junior Sailor of the Quarter,  MM2 Brandon Bussard.  And the Blue Jacket of the Quarter, MMFN Enrique Montelongo.


MM1 Mathew Stenson was surprised with a very special visit when his parents from Montana who flew into town to be present for the award.

 

 

As surprise, Chuck Shea made a special presentation of the Navy Leagues Certificate of Appreciation to Master Chief Schell CMDCM(SS) for all his efforts in working to keep up the communication efforts with the San Francisco Council. 


USS San Francisco SSN-711 holds special place in the San Francisco Council and as the Namesake City is also joined by The USS San Francisco CA-38 Memorial Foundation Council in this effort.
