One of the most rewarding programs of the
Navy League Foundation is the Scholarship Program – which provides
financial support to dependents and direct descendants of sea
service personnel to attend college.
The Navy League Foundation’s Scholarship
Program is a true endowment fund; only earnings from the fund will
be expended, leaving the principal untouched. Therefore, each named
scholarship is endowed in perpetuity. Initial contributions to the
fund have included gifts from both individuals and corporations.
In 2003 the Navy League will be awarding
$2500 scholarships. Recipients are selected on the basis of academic
record, leadership achievement, character, all-around ability, and
financial need. In general, students awarded scholarships must be
U.S. citizens who are intelligent, well-motivated young men and
women, and who have demonstrated an appreciation of the laws,
traditions and values of the United States.
To be eligible for the scholarships (except
for the Subic Bay-Cubi Point), applicants must be an U.S. citizen, a
high school graduate under the age of 25 years and entering their
freshman year of college in the fall of 2003, and a dependent or
direct descendant of a current or former member of the U.S. Navy,
Marine Corps, Coast Guard, or U.S.-flag Merchant Marines or an
active member of the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps. See below for
criteria for the Subic Bay-Cubi Point scholarship.
You can download the
2003 Scholarship Application or send a self-addressed stamped
envelope to Navy League Foundation, 2300 Wilson Boulevard,
Arlington, VA 22201-3308. Only requests with a SASE will be filled.
